Planned Giving
About half of our income goes in donations to charities and in Parish Share – our contribution towards the costs of the diocese including clergy salaries, pension and training costs and in support for the church in poorer areas. The other half is absorbed by our own running costs in promoting the work of the church, including the costs of our full time youth worker and the maintenance of our buildings.
We rely on planned giving and other donations together with the related tax recoveries to meet the bulk of these costs, which total in the region of £250,000 per annum. We encourage our regular members to donate regularly by standing order: most donate each month although some prefer to donate quarterly or annually. For those members who want physically to put their offering in the collecting plate each week we also run a “numbered envelope” scheme where each member is provided with a pre-numbered envelope for each week. Regular income helps us to plan our finances.
Almost all of our members who are taxpayers take advantage of the Gift Aid scheme, which enables us to recover tax on their donations. Currently the Inland Revenue repay us £28.21 for every £100 donated under Gift Aid although this will, under current legislation, be reduced to £25.00 on donations made after 5 April 2011. Higher rate taxpayers can claim further relief on their Gift Aid donations and so reduce their tax liabilities. The Planned Giving Recorder can give you advice about the Gift Aid declaration that you need to complete before we can reclaim tax on your donations. Please remember that you need to pay at least as much income tax and/or capital gains tax in each fiscal year to 5 April as we are able to recover on your donations. Please let us know if you cease to be a UK taxpayer as we will no longer be able to recover tax on your giving.
Visitors who wish to donate to the work of All Saints will find yellow envelopes in the pews. Completion of the Gift Aid certificate on the envelope will enable us to recover tax on your donation. Gift Aid envelopes from the Mission of the Month should also be there.
