Missions and Justice Group

Members 2010

Chris Matthews (Coordinator)

PCC Members: Lesley Atkinson, Constance Okai

Co-opted Members: Nicky Portergill, Diane Kirkup, Debbie Matthews

The remit for this group is about developing and engagement in issues of national and global concern, and at this time we are supporting:

  • Our Mission of the Month – (see below for 2010’s Mission of the Month and their contact details) plus supporting nominated causes during special Services at Lent, Easter, Harvest Festival and Christmas.
  • Amnesty – All Saints is linked with the Amnesty International group and their activities have been planned and organised by members of that group.
  • Fairtrade - All Saints is a Fairtrade church. wWe use Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar after services and in meetings and run a regular Traidcraft stall. We promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight and on other occasions when possible.
  • Christian Aid – especially during Christian Aid Week
  • Addressing the big questions:
    • Injustice and poverty
    • Environmental issues and the Ecocongregation

This is an ongoing issue and the Mission and Justice group has proposed that we promote and coordinate activities undertaken mainly by other groups.  We have completed an audit of all areas of church life and have identified some areas as being key areas to progress the project initially, these being related to Worship and Education.

It is also our intention to provide regular information for the congregation regarding ecological issues and becoming an Ecocongregation.  Short articles are planned for In Touch and, if possible, notice board space

  • Encouraging members in their work of service in the world (building the kingdom)
